Maybe you've heard or expressed sentiments like this: “I am finished! He never helps me around the house.” Or, “She doesn’t appreciate how hard I work. She’s at home all day and I don’t even come home to a meal at dinner!” These statements, translated into the acts of service love language, mean, “I don’t think I am loved; it is proven by what my spouse does not do for me.”

Spouses have expectations of how love looks. For example: “My mom always had dinner on the table when my dad arrived home from work; this was how she expressed her love for him. Therefore, if dinner is not on the table when I arrive home from work, you don’t love me very much.”
