Read about the purpose of waiting.
“Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted. But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me; my LORD has forgotten me.’ ‘Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.” Isaiah 49:13-16 (ESV)
Have you ever been in an impossible situation without any way out? The Israelites were faced with impossible circumstances themselves in captivity, unsure if they’d ever make it out of Babylon. There seemed to be no hope for them at all. None of the nations could rescue them from the power of Babylon. In the midst of their despair though, God gave them a word of hope.
He promised them that their current impossible circumstances would be a distant memory to them and the impossible would be made possible. He promised that their loved ones would return to them and that if they would just wait, though the journey seemed long and impossible, He would deliver them. He promised the waiting would be worth it.
Are you facing similar circumstances? Maybe you’re single right now and it seems as if the right person will never come along. Maybe you are experiencing inexplicable grief that feels like it will last forever. Maybe you are experiencing financial difficulties that seem impossible to conquer. Maybe you are going through a separation. In all circumstances, remember this: God can do the impossible and change circumstances. We must be patient and wait upon Him, knowing that He has not forgotten us!
Lord, help us to be patient as we wait upon You through these difficult times. Help us to trust in You fully, knowing that you are in control. Amen.
