“Enemy-occupied territory — that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.” ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

It’s easy to live as if we are going through the motions, seeing only what’s in front of us. But there’s much more to life than this. And there are many more aspects to life than the physical realm we can see with our eyes. The physical is only a tiny part of true reality.

Reality involves us being embroiled in an all-out war that’s going on around us this very moment, though we may not be able to visibly detect it. Reality is living in enemy-occupied territory.

What does it mean to live in enemy-occupied territory? It means complacency isn’t an option. It means we must always be on our guard. It means we must intentionally fight for our side. It means our struggle isn’t "against flesh and blood, but against...the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

The battle we cannot see is more real than the physical struggles we face every day. But you know what else defines our reality? It is God’s love, Jesus’ sacrifice, and the Holy Spirit living in us — extremely powerful forces in this unseen battle.

We can become dangerous saboteurs in this enemy-occupied territory called the world. The question is — will we use that power? Will we engage in this battle?

God, open my eyes to see what you see. Thank you that in you I have incredible power — please teach me how to best use it. Amen.
