Trust is the belief a person has in trusting someone or something. For example, you can be sure that the sun will rise in the east and set in the west. Or that the wind will always blow on the surface of the earth, caressing your face. Today, we often focus on our looks, achievements, relationships or money. We may trust idols or our ambitions. Some people, though they may not even know about biblically accurate angels, may trust in these beings more than they trust in who truly matters.

Here are tips and prayers to learn how to build your confidence in God.

4 Ways to Build Up Your Confidence in God

1. Repent and confess your sins regularly.

Sometimes the guilt of sin prevents us from approaching God with complete courage. But when we regularly repent and confess our wrongdoing, trusting Jesus for our salvation, we are filled with assurance that we are right with God, and this strengthens our confidence.

2. Meditate on God’s Word.

The Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Tune out the voices of the world and focus on God’s.

When we fill our hearts with the scriptures and meditate on them, it becomes easier to remember them when thoughts of insecurity and doubt come. Refuse to listen to negative messages and continually confess his word in every situation.

Passages on confidence and on God being in control are particularly helpful in building your confidence in Christ and his work in your life.

3. Depend on God in trials.

James 1:2-4 says, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

Trials not only make you stronger, but God reveals himself to you and proves himself by delivering you from them. Even though some trials last longer than you’d like, you will eventually witness God’s work. This will increase your trust in him, in his power and his faithfulness.

God wants you to walk through life confident that he is holding your hand every step of the way.

4. Speak the truth of God’s Word.

In difficult times, it's easy to let your words reflect your circumstances. But proclaiming the truth of God's words even when we're surrounded by negativity reinforces our faith.

His Word gives us the confidence we need to overcome life's challenges.

For example, constantly professing that God will provide all your needs according to his riches in glory (Philippians 4:19) in times of financial difficulties helps you build your confidence around his ability, not your situation.

Here are examples of prayers for building confidence in God.

A Prayer For Confidence In God

Lord, thank you because you are always faithful and true and your steadfast love never ceases. Thank you that prayer is powerful and effective and that even when we doubt, you still hear our prayers and act on our behalf. Lord, I confess that sometimes I doubt.

Sometimes I’m not sure if my prayers are really effective or if you hear me. So, Lord, I ask you to embolden my faith. Help me have confidence that you will always be there for me and will never leave or forsake me. I pray that you help me to trust in you at all times.

Sweet Holy Spirit, sent to us to be our helper, guide and comforter, direct my life so that I can be an example of what trusting in God does in our lives. May I have confidence in your plan for my life, and follow where you lead me. Thank you for your tender love for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer For Assurance

Dear Lord, it is in confidence that I approach you. I know that you will grant me everything I ask from you if it is part of your plan for my life. I need your Spirit to walk with me, Lord.

I need you to assure me that I can do all that I am meant to do. May I be confident in your promise and remain faithful to you, even in the hard times. I pray that I live boldly because you are my Lord. Amen.

A Prayer For Help

Almighty Lord, King of Kings, there are times when I have doubted my strength and my ability to do things. I know that you have blessed me immensely with unique talents and a resilient heart. Lord, I ask for your help as I pursue my dreams. Multiply my confidence and help me believe that your plans for me are good and will give you the ultimate glory. Amen.

A Prayer For Help In Building Confidence In God

Lord God, heavenly Father, we are poor, miserable sinners. We know your will and promises, but we are too weak to believe them. Our flesh and blood hold us back, and our enemy the devil will not leave us in peace.

Awaken our hearts that we may sincerely receive your Word and not make light of it, or hear it without fruit as did your people long ago. Lead us to fear you and daily grow in faith in your mercy. Thank you that through your son Christ Jesus we can have eternal salvation.

Pour your Holy Spirit in our hearts, that with steadfast faith we may cling to your Jesus and find comfort in his death. Build our confidence in God. Help us believe in the forgiveness of sin through him. In willing obedience to your will, help us lead holy lives on earth until by your grace we depart from this world of sorrow and obtain eternal life.

Through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one true God, now and forever.

Conclusion God wants you to walk through life confident that he is holding your hand every step of the way.

He does not want you to do this arrogantly, boastfully, or proudly, but only with the peace that comes from knowing who you are, who he is and what you have inherited in him.

Seeing yourself through his eyes is a great way to strengthen your trust in God.

So, beloved, do not only confess this assurance you have received in words, but also in your actions. Listen and follow the Lord's instructions every step of the way.

When you need extra confidence today or any day, turn directly to God and his Word. He will never fail.
