It’s speculated that the virgin Mary was a teenager when the angel Gabriel visited her. Some would consider this to be the age of innocence before being thrown into the fire of adulthood.

Nonetheless, the enormity of Gabriel's news to Mary that she would become pregnant and give birth to a Messiah must have shattered Mary's hopes for her future . Yet, it was her devoted heart that set her apart for God's favor. She was chosen for such a purpose as this.

Her once ‘troubled' (Luke 1:29) posture gave way to an unrivaled obedience and surrender. Expectantly, Mary would wait for the birth of her and, eventually, our great hope.

While the world trims their Christmas trees and wraps presents this time of year, true followers of Christ excitedly celebrate the precious babe born under the star of Bethlehem over two thousand years ago - Jesus.

Our great expectation of a savior came to be through the humility of a girl completely submitted to the Lord's will and plan for her young life.

Let Mary be an example to us when we encounter God’s hand in our circumstances, for it’s because of Mary’s willingness that we have a great hope fulfilled in Jesus the Messiah. Sing with joy to the world that the Lord is come!

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for the obedience of Mary that brought us a savior. No matter what it is you have planned for me, ‘May it be to me as you have said.’(Luke 1:38). It’s in Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.

Throughout This Day: Take time today to perform a heart check. Is Mary’s unwavering obedience yours?
