“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” Psalm 118:29 (NASB)

It had been a difficult week as we had walked alongside friends who were grieving at different levels and I found myself struggling with a variety of emotions. As I opened my Bible to Psalm 118, I was struck by a very familiar verse: This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps. 118:24, NASB).

Really, Lord?

I was so overwhelmed that I had lost sight of the truth. Even this day, despite all its challenges on different levels, was a gift from God. As I sat by the fire, I realized that the question I was asking myself was, ‘Can I trust You God?’ When I said it out loud, the answer was so obvious. Of course I could! After all, He is entirely trustworthy and that never changes.

So the real question was not can I, but rather, ‘Will I trust you, God?’ That slight shift suddenly put everything in a brand new light. Did I truly believe that God was sovereign and I could depend on that? Because if so, then the choice was up to me, whether or not I would choose to trust Him.

Corrie ten Boon once said, “Never doubt in the darkness what God has shown you in the light.” Put that way, the choice was so obvious. Of course I could trust Him based on who He was and that was exactly what I needed to do today, and the next day, and the next.

What circumstances are you facing today that you need to entrust to your loving Heavenly Father?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that in the midst of uncertain times, I can choose to trust You because You are trustworthy. Regardless of the circumstances I face, You are and always will be good. Please help me in times when I fail to trust You! Send forth Your Spirit and help me to trust you fully. Amen

Take Action

Practice having a thankful heart today and look for those things in your life that you can thank God for.
