Why do you worship God? Really, stop and think about it. Why do we obey him? Why do we sing to him? Why do people pick up their lives and move to the other side of the world to share about him with others? What prompts us to such actions?

Today’s passage gives us the answer: He is worthy.

But why is he worthy? He is worthy of everything we have to give because he has given us everything we have to give, starting when he created us and gave us breath.

That’s not all of it.

In the very next chapter, we see the saints praising God not only for his creation of us, but for Jesus purchasing us through his blood on the cross. He gave us everything we are in creating us—and Jesus gave us his own life as well.

And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

Revelation 4:9-10

He is worthy of all glory and power and honor because we belong to him, first because he created us, second, because he paid for us. When we begin to understand this, no other response makes sense besides worship.

The thing is, he isn’t only worthy of worship from you and me. He is worthy of the worship of everyone in the world. And through his blood, he has made all of us worthy of worshiping before the throne, coming close to him.

I can only imagine what it will be like to sing these words with you one day, with the one who loves us so much right in front of us.

So who will you tell about him today? And what does worship look like for you today?

Lord God, thank you for my life and for my eternal life. Help me to understand more of your holiness, power, and love. You are worthy of all I have to give. Who would you like me to share with about you today?

For today: Read saiah 43:1 and compare it to today’s passages.
