I want to live intentionally. But if I’m honest, I don’t always choose that way.

I know what matters—time with God, meaningful work, loving people well. Yet in the moment, I drift toward what’s easier. I scroll instead of praying. I delay instead of acting. I choose comfort over calling. Maybe you feel that tension too.

We often think intentional living is about trying harder. More discipline. Better habits. Stronger focus. But Scripture points us somewhere deeper. “Be very careful how you live.” This carefulness isn’t pressure, it’s awareness. It’s living awake to what God is doing in and around us.

Every day is filled with small decisions. And those decisions are not neutral. They are forming us. The real question isn’t just, “What should I choose?” but “Who is shaping my choices?”

When I rely on myself, self-discipline feels exhausting. I might do well for a while, but eventually I slip back into old patterns. But when I walk with the Holy Spirit, something changes. He doesn’t just help me choose better—He reshapes my desires. This is the difference between striving and abiding.

Jesus calls us to remain in Him (John 15:4-5). As we do, our lives begin to bear fruit—not because we force it, but because we’re connected to the source. Even our choices begin to reflect His heart.

Intentional living, then, I believe, is not about perfect discipline. It’s about daily surrender. It’s choosing, again and again, to listen, to pause. To invite the Holy Spirit into ordinary moments. And trusting that He is at work—even in the smallest decisions.

Jesus, I want to live with intention, but I see how easily I drift. I confess that I rely on my own strength and fall short. Teach me to walk with your Spirit. Shape my desires so that my choices reflect your heart. Help me to notice what truly matters today and give me grace to choose it. Amen.

Throughout this Day:
Before making a simple decision, pause and ask: Holy Spirit, what would it look like to choose with you right now?
