What if the difference between simply starting the year and stepping into a truly victorious one is found in where you choose to begin? January often feels like a fresh start, with new ideas, new goals, a new hope for what the year could become. But Scripture reminds us that the strongest beginnings don’t start with our plans; they start with God.

In Genesis 1:1-3, we see this clearly. When God began his work, the earth was “formless and void,” and darkness covered everything. But then God spoke: “Let there be light,” and everything changed. His voice brought clarity where there was emptiness and direction where there was disorder. That is what a God-led beginning looks like. And that same power is available to us as we enter this New Year. Victory begins where God begins.

Jesus reinforces this in Revelation 22:13 when he says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” He isn’t just part of our journey, he defines it. When he is first, he carries us through the middle and brings the end to completion. Whatever this year holds opportunities, decisions, transitions, none of it sits outside his wisdom or his reach.

So start this year with intention: begin with God. Bring him your plans and your questions. Invite him to lead before you act and to guide before you decide. Don’t wait for perfect conditions, start with him now. When God is your beginning, he shapes the victory that follows. This is your moment to move – start with God.

Heavenly Father, you are the God who was there from the beginning. I commit the start of this New Year to you. Lead, guide me and be the Alpha and Omega over everything that concerns me and my family. May I begin in victory and walk in your favour throughout the year and may I also end the year in victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Throughout the Day: Before planning your year, pause and invite God first. Commit your plans, family and goals to him. Ask for his guidance, favour and presence. A year that begins with God is a year anchored in victory.
