Where to Find Shelter

Have you ever felt like a circumstance has boxed you in, has decided your fate and you’ve got nowhere to run. What do you do?

I don’t know about you, but when I feel hurt or betrayed, it’s unsettling. One time, I felt so desperate to get someone to listen to me, to help me carry that load. I called several siblings to find someone to talk to. No one picked up. Disappointed, I tried to forget what had happened, but I couldn’t. So, I called upon God. He listened.

So, I tried to take refuge in the shadow of His wings. God’s wings. What are they like? I imagine being outside on a scorching day, and God providing shelter from the relentless sun, under his shadow. I don’t need to know how big God is, or what he looks like. I just know I can allow God’s power to give me spiritual shelter. I am sheltered from anything that would harm me.

When I focus on the power of God, I know he wants to protect me. I may not know how he will do it, but I know he can protect me. Most importantly, God loves me enough that he cares about me, my needs, my wants, my feelings and my safety.

Let’s think about God’s love. His love covers any mistake I’ve made. He loves me enough to forgive me. He loves me enough to protect me from anything that may come against me.

I wish I would never have to go through any adversity. However, when an adverse season shows up, although we didn’t ask for it, we get to deal with it. Sometimes, I feel it’s beyond what I can handle. But Scripture says that God will never allow us to go through anything that we can’t bear.

Knowing and focusing on God’s love and his shelter can make us feel safe and keep us safe, no matter what we face.

God’s unfailing love is something which I am so thankful for. While I can’t control life’s circumstances, I know God will not fail me. God may not always spare me from the adversity, but he always helps me through it.

Dear God, I can’t thank you enough for being part of my life. I am so grateful for your unfailing love. You are Love and you won’t ever fail me.
