Whenever I see something nice online that I want to buy —

My eyes say: Yes! My mind says: Yes! My body: Yes! My heart: Yes! My soul: Yes! My wallet: No!

We have the freedom of choice every day of our lives. From simple things like which cereal to eat for breakfast to life altering decisions like, “Yes, I will marry you.”

Similar to my example, you may have several prominent avenues in your life that scream “Yes” but God tells you “No” — and vice versa when everything in your life is telling you “No” but God says “Yes.” He will not force you to do one or the other. He will give you the freedom to choose.

The exciting news is He will send prompts such as wise old ladies, Bible verses, small children, or even a glowing angel at the foot of your bed to help you decide. True, you still might make the wrong decision, like we all have from time to time, but He will be there to help you.

Do you know why there are no knock-knock jokes about freedom? It’s because freedom rings. God is calling you. When He does, answer and listen to what He has to say. I hope you let Him guide you, but ultimately it is your choice. For though you are free, you still must answer to God. You are still held accountable. Listen to His prompts and follow His wisdom.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me to live freely and to understand that even though I am free to make my own choices I am still held accountable by you. Please help me to recognize your prompts and to follow your wisdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Go Deeper — Think back to any decision you felt God prompted you to make and thank Him for it. Find one other person who can benefit from hearing your story and tell it to them so as to give them hope and encouragement.
