Who is taking the lead in your life? When the necessity to set sail arises, who is the skipper? Is Jesus guiding you subtly and steadily, directing your very steps? The nation of Israel had learned the hard way that setting out on their own was a recipe for disaster. Who would then protect them while danger was lurking so close? God's presence was very relevant to the children of Israel and still is to us. Under the leadership of Moses, the children of Israel would know when it was time to set out and when to stay. They walked in obedience to God’s instructions. They allowed the Lord to lead them because they considered themselves God’s people.

In Numbers 10, the ark of the covenant went before them, signifying God’s presence. It is important to allow the Lord to take the lead in everything. Later in Israel’s history we again see the necessity of allowing the ark to go before them, for the people did not know which way to go since they had never been on that path before. (Joshua 3:3-4) It was a vital sign of their obedience; they needed to stay connected to God and remain in his presence.

We are halfway through the year, and perhaps you did not begin your journey with the Lord, or maybe you began with him but got sidetracked. The Lord is asking you to entrust your life to him. He wants to show you the way to the place of rest that is found in him, who is all-knowing and has the best interests of our lives at heart.

Heavenly Father, I've walked aimlessly for a long time and yielded no fruit. Today, I hand over control of my life to you. Lead and guide me to the rest found in Jesus Christ. Amen

Throughout this Day: Take some time to pray and ask the Lord to guide you and your entire family in all aspects of your lives. Commit to allowing the all-seeing one to shepherd your family and provide you with his grace and peace to follow his guidance.
