What’s on your mind?

A simple question it would seem. Something a friend might ask, as we sit down to a cup of coffee or tea. Yet if answered honestly with a bit of thought, it can reveal so very much.

After all, life grows complicated, doesn’t it? A never-ending list of things to do, places to be. Sometimes relationship concerns grow heavy, and hearts nearly break. Those we love go through difficulties, we face decisions about jobs, health, and on it goes. I have been there, and I suspect you have, too.

One thing I’ve noticed. Any one of these concerns can take center stage in my thought life. Before I know it, it’ll consume those odd moments of downtime, and may even keep me awake or dominate my conversation with a friend or two. And life gets thrown out of balance!

Ah, there is another way of life, however! One that I’ve grown to love, though I’d not claim to live there one hundred percent of the time. It’s not a life without challenges or free of difficulties, yet it is a way of peace. Listen to the prophet Isaiah.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” (Is. 26:3–4)

Wow! Perfect peace! As my mind is stayed on Jehovah God, as it is centered or fixed on him, I too can have perfect peace even as a storm rages around me. I am learning to trust in God even when faced with health challenges or the various difficulties of life.

God’s care is not dependent on today’s weather or the stock market report, the opinions of those around us or our latest lab results. He is faithful and good. Nothing can separate us from his love. Let’s trust him today, and let God’s perfect peace surround and strengthen our hearts and minds.

God, I confess that my mind is so often distracted by the concerns of the day and even the burdens of those I love. Yet I know that you too care about each and every one of these issues, these concerns, these loved ones. I choose by faith to roll these burdens onto you and to trust you today. You are my Rock, my Refuge, my Strength. Thank you for the perfect peace that comes only from you. Amen.

Throughout the Day: I love to listen to songs taken from Scripture. The main part of this short chorus is directly from Isaiah 26:3, and I hope you enjoy it as I have. &start_radio=1
