I yawned, made coffee, and dragged my body to the computer. It, too, was still in sleep mode. It wasn’t until I took a few sips of caffeine that I became aware enough to notice it. A new monitor! No more small gray lines running vertically through the images. Everything appeared bright and clear.

My son, who was visiting, chuckled. “Surprise, Mom. Was wondering when you’d notice.” I know I blushed. The new monitor was quite a bit larger, the base was a different shape, and the thing took up a lot less depth on my desk.

Three disciples followed Jesus up to a mountaintop to pray. Jesus often retreated into the hills to a secluded spot to commune with the Father. As they prayed, the disciples grew weary. They almost missed his transfiguration into glory. But when they became fully awake…”

I wonder how often we trudge through our days mentally half-asleep, dulled by life’s hassles, worries, and stress. What miracles go unnoticed?

At times, we need to be shaken awake so God can get our attention. It is only then that our faith will be sharp enough to clearly see the amazing things he is doing or has done in our lives.

It’ll be something unexpected, just as with the disciples on that mountain. The surprise may seem good, or not so good. But if it is from God, it will have purpose.

Will we open our drowsy hearts enough to behold his glory in whatever he brings into our lives?

Lord, forgive me if I am not aware of the many ways you are moving in my life. I’m sorry I often miss your wonderful gifts and never give you the glory. Thank you for loving me and caring enough to keep giving. Open my eyes, my mind, and my heart to you, Lord. Amen.

Throughout this Day: Today, notice how many people seem to be going through life half-asleep. Pray for God to touch their hearts and wake them up so they can clearly see his glory.
