Why is it few of us like change, when that is what defines life on earth? Nothing in this temporary world stays the same. Our bodies change, the seasons change, time marches on. Sometimes things transform into something we didn’t expect.

My son used to play with Transformers. They looked like a car, but with a few twists and turns, they turned into a robot. One time I asked, “Do you think that hurts?” He cocked his seven-year-old head as his hands moved. “Not much. He knows this is what he is supposed to become.” In his childlike wisdom, he had grasped the Gospel in a nutshell.

A wise pastor once said, “God meets us where we are, but loves us too much to keep us there.” Part of becoming a follower of Christ is being open to change, though some balk at the idea because they fear the process. “He may send me off to be a missionary or I may have to give up my habits.” In the Bible, many of Jesus’ followers turned away. What He asked was too hard (John 6:60-66). They liked things the way they were without realizing nothing stays the same... except God’s eternal love.

Here’s a thought. If we are going to change anyway, why not be transformed into who God intended us to become? It’ll take some twists and turns, but we will be guided by the loving hands of our Savior.

Father, you created me to be here at this time and place for a purpose. Help me to be transformed in my mind, knowing my heart and soul will follow. Let me embrace the changes you wish to make in me instead of fighting my way out of your loving hands. In Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
