"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!" Psalm 107:1

Open your eyes to see the blessings around you. Offer fresh praise to God and the raw edge of selfishness, which truly is the core of ungratefulness, will be smoothed. Your vision will be restored to deep gratitude and you will move back from that dangerous “raw edge of ungratefulness”.

In Ann Voskamp’s book “One Thousand Gifts”, she talks about the “raw edge of ungratefulness” and how important the practice of giving thanks is.

The phrase, “raw edge of ungratefulness” stuck with me. It sounds so big, as if it would be obvious in its coming. But it’s not.  No sooner will you choose to raise the bar of gratefulness and in will steal the smallest of annoyances that open the door for ungratefulness to enter on padded feet.

We are more aware of our daily blessings as we seek to engage a thankful heart. We are more aware of our annoyances when we allow ungratefulness to steal in.

Heavenly Father, today I choose to open my eyes to see Your blessings. I choose to open my mouth to express my gratitude and to praise You. Please forgive me for the times I allow ungratefulness and selfishness to take the lead. Thank you for Your goodness and Your steadfast love that endures forever! May I be a conduit of that love to those around me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
