In this fast-paced world, what are you thirsting for? Entertainment, rest, sports, work, family time, hobbies or something else? These are all good activities to engage in, but they are only for temporary relief. How about when moments of bombardment, harassment, stress or despair show up?

The woman said to Jesus, “Please, sir, give me this water!” Jesus had said that anyone who drank the water he offered would have a fresh spring in them daily (John 4:14-15, NLT). I am reminded of the impact waterfalls have. They provide soothing sights and sounds that help us relax and de-stress in today's busy world. The presence of God will provide much more: companionship, confidence, counsel and comfort.

God does not ask us to understand but to trust His presence that enables us to obey. Just as we need water to keep us hydrated, we need God’s presence daily in our lives, especially during those times when things are not going well. As we yield and connect with the Holy Spirit, the well in us will overflow with truth, compassion and hope. When things are at their absolute worst, we will have the assurance that there is glorious hope for the future. The water, the living water, that Jesus offers is the ultimate thirst quencher. When was the last time you had something that really satisfied your desire?

Dear Lord, Thank you for the invitation you make available for me daily to come into your presence to quench my thirst.

Throughout this day: Meditate on, “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God”. Psalm 42:1 NLT
