From a human standpoint, this must have been a difficult task. Only the priests could perform sacrifices according to the blueprint given to Moses in the Old Testament. I'm left wondering about the feasibility of this in modern times, yet the revelation of Christ rendered it all obsolete. Under the ancient covenant, atonement for sins was accomplished through animal sacrifice. Even then, this was insufficient because the guilt of sin remained in the sinner's mind and heart.

Christ, the perfect sacrifice, atoned for all mankind's sins. Christ died once and for all for the forgiveness of our sins (Romans 6:10). This should give us courage to approach Jesus Christ since he alone paid the ultimate sacrifice, bearing our guilt and shame on the rugged cross. Different sacrifices were required in the past, but in our current dispensation, we have Jesus and can believe in his finished work on the cross for us. By trusting in him, we can have restoration. No human effort can qualify men to become righteous in God's eyes.

After accomplishing his mission, Christ was elevated and is now seated at the Father's right side. This should serve as a warning to us whenever we depart from the truth and take our own measures to prove our legitimacy in God's eyes. Christ is wholly sufficient for humanity. He extends forgiveness and eternal life to everyone who comes to him in faith. Will you make the critical choice to daily give Jesus your life?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the work that was completed at the cross and for sending Jesus, my Great High Priest, who offered a better sacrifice that has made me acceptable in your sight. Lord, please help me to firmly abide in your Word so that I won't be found wanting. Amen.
