When I share the message of the gospel, I unleash the power of God in someone’s life to be saved. All I have to do is share it. God’s power does the rest, as his Holy Spirit moves in that person’s life, hopefully to the point of believing the truth.

Why do I make this so hard? As if I have to persuade someone to become a Christian? Indeed, it makes me think of the story where Agrippa said to Paul, “you have almost persuaded me to be a Christian.” (Acts 26:28) God was actually the one at work in Agrippa’s heart, not Paul!

No matter how eloquent my words are, they will not cause someone to become a Christian. I think of my dad who, in his 80’s, said that he could at least share the tract, How to Get to Heaven from Cadillac, Michigan. I wondered how effective that would be, though I appreciated his fervor in sharing it. God did use even this tract!

Let God’s power be the focus, not your presentation or words. Don’t be ashamed of using the simple truths of the gospel. Here are a few more approaches:

  1. Be sure to humbly tell people your story about how you came to believe in Jesus. Telling our story, which is embedded in God’s bigger story of redemption, is simple but profound.

  2. Don’t be afraid to talk about the cross. I Corinthians 1:17 says, “For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.” As despicable as the cross was, its meaning also has power, according to this verse.

  3. Take time to understand the person with whom you are speaking. Ask questions of him/her, and then silently ask God to show you what to share with that person. Jesus first saw the hearts of those with whom he interacted, and he responded with love, as well as truth, which is a great example for us to follow!

Father God, please show me how to humbly share with others in a way that unleashes your power for salvation. Remind me that you do the real work of salvation! Amen.

Throughout this Day: As you go about your day, think about sharing your story with someone that you meet, and watch God’s power at work!
