True friendship involves heart to heart communication. It is developed over time through mutual trust. Secrets, desires, hopes, sorrows, fears, as well as our dreams are shared and appreciated without censoring. It is a sacred bond.
I have friends that I can tell anything to. They hold my heart in confidence. I trust them because we have walked through deep waters together. We pray for each other. We are often in the same spiritual battles. When we talk, we just take up from our last conversation without missing a beat.
Do you spend time in intimate communion with the Lord? He knows your heart. There is nothing hidden. He knows your thoughts before you think them. So why would he want to spend time with you? He wants to share his heart. He wants you to know his desires, hopes, and dreams. He wants to give you specific things to pray for.
What a joy to have heart to heart communion with the one who loves us unconditionally. His heart communing with our heart, as we just enjoy each other’s presence.
Thank you Jesus for wooing me into intimate communion with you. I treasure our friendship. How amazing that you desire to share your heart with me. Thank you Lord Jesus for dying for me, so that I am invited into your holy presence.
Throughout this Day: Take some time to meditate on what it means to have Jesus as your friend. Perhaps this classic hymn may help you focus:
