I am not a fan of long road trips. I just want to already be there. Traffic jams, insane drivers, and inclement weather ruin things for me. But the absolute worst part is when I hit a long stretch of highway with no one else in sight. Then there is another car! I sync up my speed with it and end up traveling with the other driver for a long time. Then all of a sudden, it just exits, leaving me alone again. I get nostalgic and whisper, “I will always miss you, Ford Focus from Oklahoma.”

Mary and Joseph had a long road trip ahead. They were on a mission to help deliver the most amazing gift to the world. Scholars say it took them 8-10 days to travel the approximately 100-mile journey. They were in a caravan, but by the time they arrived at their destination, it may have been just them.

I had a friend who always tried to pressure me into questionable behavior by saying, “Life is short.” Life is short, but it is long enough to feel the weight of your consequences. Mary and Joseph were obedient and took that long road.

The good news is that like He was with Mary and Joseph, Jesus will be with you every step of the way. Even if you take your eyes off Him, He will never treat you like the Ford Focus from Oklahoma. He will never leave nor forsake you. He loves you, so don’t ever forget it.

Heavenly Father thank you for your guidance and comfort during my long road ahead. I can’t see the end but I have faith that you will be with me every step of the way. Amen.

Go Deeper — Compare your journey now from what it was 5 years, 10 years, 15 years ago. How have you grown in that time? And if you haven’t grown the way you would like, ask God to show you what you need to change so that when you get to your destination you will accomplish all He has for you to do.
