The light, which overcame the darkness of my heart, now shines through me. God, whose essence is light, has made me a light-bearer and set me on a hill.

God set me like a watchtower on the mountainside or a lighthouse by the sea, not to puff up my self-importance, but so people around me will see me, and through me see Him. His light shines brightly at times, at others dimly through the cracks. But His light shines. It can’t be hidden.

At times I’m tempted to cover myself because I'm afraid of what people will see. What if I project darkness instead? Or what if my faults are exposed and people walk away?

But I am in the light because God is the light. Instead of covering up, worried about what the light will reveal, I am free to live in a house with glass walls, where all can look inside and see His light in spite of my imperfections.

Of course, a good lightkeeper will keep the lens clean so the light can shine more brilliantly. Christ’s forgiving love rubs away my smudges. Because the Holy Spirit dwells in me, the light is always there.

When I stand together with other Christians, the light grows stronger. The stronger the strength of our light, the farther it will reach.

God intends for our light to reach the world. Are you trying to hide yours, or will you boldly stand with me so we can shine together?

Light of the world, let me walk in Your light, following where it leads and reflecting on the hundreds and thousands of people You cause to cross my path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
