“I AM THAT I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites:I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14

The Bible is replete with stories of those who faced what seemed like insurmountable circumstances. Each story is very different, but there is a common thread through them all—God proved His ability to provide exactly what they needed when they needed it.

In Exodus chapter 3, Moses was instructed by God to go back to Egypt and rescue the Israelites. Moses asked by what name he was to identify the God who had sent him. God said: “I AM THAT I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: “I AM has sent me to you.” (Exodus 3:14)

I AM (Yahweh or Jehovah) is written in English translations as Lord. It speaks to God’s personal and self-identifying name. In other words, God is identifying Himself as self-existent and the sole arbiter of His own will. Nothing external makes Him who He is. He does whatever He wants to do. There is no issue too big for Him. No matter what situation confronts Him, He is able to overcome it. The title “I AM” speaks to God’s ability to be who He is forever. He never changes and He will always be who He is.

Circumstances will arise in our lives that feel too difficult for us to bear. It’s during those times that we must remember that I AM is with us. When I AM is in the picture, anything is possible. God possesses the ability to provide exactly what we need to overcome any hardship we face. He is I AM.

Lord, thank You for being I AM in my life. Help me to allow you to be everything I need in every situation I face. Amen
