I am really bad at dieting. Being disciplined enough to eat correctly and work out does not come easily for me. I’ve used so many excuses that at one time I became irrational about it. I lived by the creed that if you spend time baking a cake, cookies, or brownies you can eat as many as you want and the calories do not count. You made those calories, you are their creator. This made sense to me when I said it in my head. But like I said, I am really bad at dieting.

Not everything we create is good. But that is not so with God. He spent time making every single part of you. You matter to Him and that is all that matters.

When I was growing up in the ’90s, there were campaigns in school to remind people how special they are in this world. Even though statistics say you share a birthday with at least 19 million other people, you are still uniquely created and God loves you as if you are the only person on earth. That is legitimate love. That is what counts.

People will devalue you, your job will devalue you, and those in your own family may devalue you. But God the Creator values you so much that He sent His only Son to be born, and then die — just for you. That is a pretty big deal, and in God’s eyes so are you.

Heavenly Father, thank you for valuing me. Thank you for spending time creating me. Help me to be humble enough to realize that you do not have to, but you love me anyway. Please remind me of that fact every single day. Amen.

Go Deeper — This holiday season, try to create positive memories for someone new, such as co-worker you rarely speak to, a neighbor that lives 4-5 houses down from you, a cashier, or a teacher. Try serving someone and making them feel special because God sees them that way.
