The year is far spent and from most people’s lenses, there is little to write home about. In all this one might say, “What good can come out of this?” The questions are many, yet in all circumstances God does provide means and he does answer. I’m drawn to the story of the 10 lepers. These 10 men from different walks of life had one thing in common — leprosy. They were isolated because of their condition — unclean. Their place of residence was outside the gates. Jesus was passing by and these men gathered confidence to call out loud, “Jesus, pity us.” Jesus, moved by compassion, ministered to them.

One of them, the Bible records, remembered and turned back. He had sought Jesus together with the nine, but he came on his own to acknowledge that Jesus indeed had healed him. Jesus had cleansed him, removed the shame, and had made it possible for him to interact with his loved ones. Jesus identified with him, one who was considered an outcast — a Samaritan. His heart was greatly moved, the overwhelming feeling leading him to lie prostrate before the Almighty King. This was his way of expressing the gratitude that he felt in his heart.

Has the year been a difficult one? Let’s muster our strength and call out to Jesus. When the Samaritan leper gave thanks, Scripture declares that he was saved. Thanksgiving touches the heart of God and helps us appreciate the faithfulness of God.

Abba Father, teach me through your Holy Spirit to always cultivate a heart of gratitude like the Samaritan leper. Today, I am coming to say, thank you. Receive all my praise for all that you have done for me. Amen.

Throughout This Day: Today, take time to express your gratitude to God for all the blessings he has showered on you.
