Do you trust God? On instinct, you probably said “yes”, right? But if you slow down and think about areas of anxiety in your life and ask yourself the same question, do you really trust God?

I thought I did until my dream of becoming a published author was taken out of my control and my fate was put into the hands of others. I am the kind of person that loves to know ahead of time what, when, and how something is going to go down. I feel out of control, anxious, and frantic when I don’t. Even though I said I trusted God, my actions betrayed my words when I tried to do everything in my power to make my dreams come true, instead of relying on him.

In our verse today, Hebrews tells us that Abraham obeyed God and went to the land where he would later receive his inheritance, even though he didn’t know where he was going. This was a man, an older man, living a comfortable life among his family when God asked him to uproot his life and go to the place where God would make him “the father of many nations”.

If that were me, I would have dug in my heels and said “Nope!”, but Abraham said “yes.” He obeyed the Lord’s calling even though he didn’t have a clue where God would lead him. That’s true trust.

God, I want to fully trust you with my life. Yet I sometimes lean on my own strength as if it all depends on me. Help me to trust your Holy Spirit to lead and strengthen me, step by step, in your way. Amen.

Throughout the Day: What are some areas in your life that you need to surrender fully to God today? Why not name them and take them to God, asking him to increase your faith as you seek to fully trust him?
