But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”  John 16:13-15

It’s remarkable that the Holy Spirit will make known to me what God makes known to Him! As I reflect on this, I can’t help but think that this doesn’t always seem to line up with my experience. I pray. I seek God. I wait. So often there is silence even when I’ve had a sense of His assurance of what is to come. I find myself having great faith, but when I don’t see the results, I become impatient.

I’m reminded of when I travel a long distance. I know where I’m headed, but there may be detours and challenges along that journey. There are times when the horizon appears either closer or further than it really is. If I haven’t travelled that road before, I second-guess myself, even when I know I’m going the right way. Sometimes I feel like I am lost, yet sometimes I start to think I might be closer than I thought. Yet there are also times when I’m completely encased in fog and I can only see what is directly in front of me.  Even then, I keep driving.

This is how I live my faith journey.  As I seek God, the Holy Spirit often communicates with me and He directs my path.  I need to be walking in the Spirit and abiding in Christ for that to happen.  I’ve come to realize that God’s timing is so different than mine.  He often asks me to wait and in the waiting, He teaches me.  “You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.” Psalm 119:1 (MSG)

Lord, may your spirit reveal to me that what you have revealed to Him. Give me wisdom and insight to process that revelation. Help me to see the promise on the horizon and to not lose hope when it takes longer and there are detours on the journey. Thank You that Your spirit is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Help me to abide in You and discover the miracles You have before me. This I pray in Your precious name, amen.
