Are you one of those people who needs to know the ending to the story before you read a book? Are you someone who reads the last chapter of a story first before turning to the beginning?

In a way, the Christian life is like that. The Bible tells us how the “story” will end in a way by giving us many clues to Christ’s return that will launch God’s final judgment, culminating in a new heaven and earth described in Revelation 21.

But what about the time between the recognition of our desperate need of a Savior, our acceptance of Christ for salvation, and our ultimate eternity with Him in heaven? How do we make sense of our time on earth when so many things around us don’t make sense?

Paul gives us an idea in Ephesians 1:18-19a when he prays the Christians dwelling in that city would open their spiritual eyes to see what God is doing, and the power He makes available to believers. Would God not honor that same prayer if we prayed it?

Think about what you might be able to grasp if you asked God to help you fill in the gaps in your life when things don’t add up. Is it not possible that God is at work in ways you can’t see? Why not ask Him to give you spiritual vision? Ask Him to give you insight into how these seemingly unrelated events fit into your story, the story He is writing.

Heavenly Father, help me to take my eyes off myself and turn to you when things seem out of control. Focus the eyes of my heart on you. Amen.
