A man is walking down the road. There are no lights, no moon, and he is dressed in all black. A car drives down the same road. The car has no lights on, yet the driver swerves and misses the man at the last second. How did the driver see him?

Don’t overthink it. It’s simple… it happened during daylight.

A lot of decisions we must make every day are simple ones, but we complicate them.

I used to ask God for a sign and when I received what I asked for, I would then ask for another sign to verify the first sign that I asked for. I would overthink things.

Our minds can rob us of the peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7) when we overthink so much. Worrying does not take way tomorrow’s troubles, it just takes away today’s peace.

In Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus says that there are two simple commandments: love the Lord your God with everything you have and love your neighbor as yourself. Yet we wonder, every day, how we can make this world a better place.

Just keep it simple and let God do all the worrying for you. Because worrying is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but it gets you nowhere. Do not forfeit your peace by overthinking when God makes it so simple.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for peace that calms my soul. To know that all I must do is simply give you my worry and you will turn it into praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Go Deeper — Write down your three biggest worries on three slips of paper. Pray over each one and then tear them up into little pieces, or even better, set them on fire to signify that you are giving them over to God. Just be careful not to burn anything else!
