Turning over to my left side again, I groaned in search of sleep. I was anxious about a family member’s future. Also, I had spent time before bed consuming world news headlines on my phone. I could feel the anxiety as tightness in my stomach, chest, and jaw. I regretted not leaving my phone downstairs.

Switching the lamp back on, I opened my Bible. Psalm 4:8 jumped out at me. Ahh…I relaxed as I realized I don’t need to be afraid, because my loving Daddy above oversees the universe. I can sleep in peace. He can handle anything life or the devil throws my way. I need to choose to give Christ my worries and cares- to throw them on him, as it says in 1 Peter 5:7.

He cares for me, and I can receive his peace in exchange. This is a supernatural peace that we can’t explain (Philippians 4:7). God’s peace will guard my heart and mind in Christ like a heavily armed soldier. We can find true rest in trusting Christ, not only to be our Saviour and Lord but also our guard and protector.

True rest comes from God. We don’t need to worry about a thing.

Dear Father, thank you I am safe with you. Help me trust and believe that you want to guard my mind and heart. Help me throw my worries onto you so I can rest in your peace.

Throughout this day, take time to list all that you are tempted to worry about. Show God the list and tell him you can’t take care of it. Give him those situations and people so he can. Ask him to help you trust that he will protect your mind and heart. This might be a struggle for you many times a day, but can also become a daily reliance on God, which will help you be more dependent on him. That is what he wants in our relationship with him.
