Seemingly Insignificant

Who doesn’t like an interesting story like the one we find in the book of Esther?

The book of Esther is filled with intrigue and plot twists. The verses above serve as a foreshadowing of what’s to come later in the life of Mordecai. We eventually see how Mordecai’s unintentional eavesdropping spoiled the plans of Haman, an Agagite and enemy of the Jews.

But in chapter 2, it appears Mordecai’s loyalty to King Ahasuerus is unappreciated and overlooked. His deed is treated as a seemingly insignificant act merely written down in the book of the Chronicles for future generations to read. It’s not until Chapter 6 that we learn its true significance.

You may find yourself in a similar situation. You’ve been faithful to serve in your position at church or work but your contributions seem to go unrecognized. You may wonder whether what you do makes any difference at all in God’s Kingdom.

I know — I’ve been there. But through the book of Esther, God speaks to my heart. He tells me that my seemingly insignificant acts of service may be accomplishing far more for his Kingdom than I realize.

That’s a lesson that has saved me endless hours of wasted questioning. It will do the same for you, especially if you’re obedient to the seemingly insignificant tasks of life and trust they will be significant in his plan one day. Remember that a lack of recognition today will not keep you from the rewards that lie ahead for your faithful service.

Father, I’m so thankful we can trust you to put us in the right place at the right time. I’m thankful that if there’s anything we need to know to honor and serve you with our lives, you’re more than capable of opening the doors we need open or to close doors that will take us out of your will. Give me the grace today to rest in your omnipotence over every situation that touches my life, big or small. Amen.
