New Year’s resolutions, keywords, new directions - January is full of them. Are you one who likes to set a new tone for the new year? Whether it's in January or in any other month of the year, we all come to a place at some point when we find ourselves facing something new. And when we do, we’ll be seeking wisdom to make the right decisions.

Who do you go to for wisdom? Your friends? Your parents? Your pastor? Do you pray and ask God for it? So often, we find ourselves desperately waiting for that special word of insight. We pray and wait for God to give us some sort of sign that tells us what to do or where to go.

But you know what? God has already given us all the wisdom we need in order to make it in this world. 1 Corinthians 1:30 states, “you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God” and John 1:1&14 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God….The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Jesus is the Word from which his wisdom flows.
When seeking wisdom in any decision or choice, you need to look no further than Jesus through his word. The entire Bible, cover to cover, is Jesus poured out for us. Get to know him, begin to understand his character and love for you, and you’ll have an easier time understanding which things he desires for your life.

Jesus, I want to seek you in every decision I make. I don’t want to merely ask for your wisdom but then not look for it within the word you have already given us. Help me to seek you in the right place going forward. Amen

Try this: Read a few verses every day from your book of choice in the Bible. Make note of the things you notice about God, ask yourself how the verses point to Jesus, and consider how you might apply what you’ve read to your life.
