Have you ever tried cutting your own hair?

Well, one day, I decided to take on this task. I believed I was capable because I’m a licensed cosmetologist. I’ve had my license for eighteen years and gained much experience. I’ve also trimmed my hair before, so this was a familiar task. I parted my hair like I usually would to start a haircut. I positioned myself in front of the mirror and held another mirror. Scissors in hand, I confidently made the first and second cut. As I continued, it became more challenging to get the angle of my mirror right.

I quickly realized I was in over my head. But I was sure I could cut my hair, so I kept trying. However, it was clear that my haircut wasn’t even, and the harder I tried to get it even and straight, the worse it looked. I had tried my best, but I made a mess of my hair. It took an appointment with another professional to fix the mess.

1 Chronicles 16:11 says, “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” The Lord has all the strength and knowledge we need. He wants us to ask for help. The Lord is waiting for us to seek his face. He knows everything we are facing in life, and he already knows the solution.

We sometimes think we know how to handle life’s problems. I thought I had enough knowledge to cut my hair. But I quickly learned I couldn’t do it alone. Our life is the same way. We can find ourselves in despair when we don’t look to the Lord for direction and strength and seek his face.

Are you seeking God for strength and direction in your life?

Dear God, I often want to take control of my life and leave you out. Please help me to remember to always look to you for strength and seek your face. Amen.

Today’s Challenge: When you face a problem or difficulty, seek God first. Stop and ask God, “What should I do?” Then, listen to his instructions and follow them. You will feel God strengthen and guide you.
