Today, Canada celebrates its 150th birthday!

The most exciting event I've heard of is being held in the province of Alberta. It's called Hope 150. With unprecedented vision, and meticulous attention to detail, this Christ-honoring event will connect the people of Calgary with the finest Canadian Christian musicians and speakers who attribute their hope to Creator God.

What is most outstanding about the idea is that it originated after tragedy. Jason and Shauna Caldwell, who lost their twin teenage boys, Jordan and Evan, in an accident less than a year and a half ago, deliberately prepared this celebration of hope. Their sons were known to love God with all their soul, mind, and strength, and love others as themselves. In the reality of the daily sorrow of empty places at the table, unoccupied bedrooms, and a lot less noise and fun, the Caldwells dedided to initiate joy for others. How incredible!

While we’re here on earth, Jesus said we would have sorrow but that it would turn to joy (John 16: 20). He told us He’s preparing a place for us in Heaven, and if we believe in Him we will live with Him for eternity where sorrow and pain no longer exist. All that is prideful, painful, or paltry will be left behind.

Although God the Father also lost His Son to death, His son ultimately conquered death. Scripture tells us He’s planning glorious pleasures for us to experience in eternity. Then we will at last understand how He freely gives us all things (Romans 8:29) and how the best was truly saved for last.

Lord God, I can’t even begin to imagine the loving surprises You are preparing for me. Little intimations of eternity with You make my heart leap in anticipated joy. Being with You will surpass everything that I ever thought I needed and wanted. Being with You will satisfy my heart’s deepest needs. So I thank you ahead of time for what You are preparing for those who love You. Amen.

Go Deeper – Think of someone in far worse circumstances than you. On the basis of Psalm 23, pray that they will know that God is with them even in the valley of the shadow of death. Pray that they will fear no evil. Pray that God will prepare a table for them in the presence of their enemies. Pray that, miraculously, they will experience the goodness and mercy of God so they can dwell in His house forever.
