It was a blessing for me to witness the ruins of Ephesus. As part of my work with a cruise line company, I was able to visit the beautiful island of Patmos in Greece. Standing in those places made me realize that the Bible is not merely full of stories, but a blueprint of truth that shapes the principles of life and faith.
Christians in Ephesus lived under the strong influence of Greek gods. Idolatry was everywhere. Culture encouraged compromise, teaching that one could follow Christ and still live in sin. Yet God called his people to stand firm, reject compromise, and live holy lives even in a corrupt culture. Today, we have the same calling. Return to your first love: Jesus.
By the grace of God, he sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross and to save us from our sin. Through faith in him, we receive the promise of everlasting life and hope.
But salvation is only the beginning. The process of sanctification is not easy or comfortable. It involves testing, struggle, and moments that stretch our faith to its limits. Through these trials, God’s Spirit is shaping us, refining our character, and drawing us closer to himself.
Today, no matter what happens, do not give up. Keep walking with him, even when the journey is hard. The promises Jesus gave to the Ephesians are the same promises he gives to us today—calling us to return, remain, and hold fast.
By his blood and his overflowing grace, our sins have been forgiven. Salvation is a gift from God that we could not earn. (Ephesians 1:7, 2:8 ERV)
“With God’s power working in us, he can do much, much more than anything we can ask or think of. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21 ERV)
When we sin, we do not need to run away. Instead, we can run to him. His Spirit can help us humble ourselves, repent, and surrender to him daily. Faithfulness is not about perfection, but about a heart that continually returns to Christ.
“Look, Jesus is coming with the clouds! Everyone will see him, even those who pierced him. All peoples of the earth will cry loudly because of him. Yes, this will happen! Amen.” (Revelation 1:7ERV)
Lord Jesus, help us return to our first love. Strengthen us to stand firm in truth, reject compromise, and walk faithfully with you each day. When we fall, teach us to repent quickly and surrender fully. Shape our hearts until they reflect yours. Amen.
