My wife and I, along with three young kids, recently were uprooted when we moved from Idaho to Colorado. We both grew up in Idaho, loved living there, and never thought of moving. While it became clear that God was relocating us, our excitement was mixed with grief. We were leaving family, friends, and a place we knew and loved – it was home. My wife’s brother and his family live in Colorado, but we otherwise didn’t know anyone or have any of the longtime friends that we did in Idaho. Nothing seemed familiar.

This move felt like our own "Abram relocation" story. As I reread the story of God’s call to Abram, I had a whole new set of questions. How did Abram know this was the one true God and not a counterfeit? Was he eager to leave? What did his family think about all of this? Did Abram ever have second thoughts or wondered if he correctly heard what God said? Or did he wonder if it was just a mistake?

I assume Abram wrestled with these kinds of questions. Yet, in the midst of the questions, he pressed on. He kept going — resting on God's promise of a better land. It was a land he saw by faith alone.

Like Abram, with mixed emotions and far more questions than answers, we too can press on. We, by faith, can walk toward a future not yet seen by us, resting on the promises of God to be correct and true.

Heavenly Father, thank you that you are a faithful God. You are the One in whom we can trust and rest as we journey in this life, wherever you lead us. Amen.

Go Deeper — Have you ever had to move away from family and friends? Think back on that time. In retrospect, can you see how God orchestrated things? If you are facing that now, read Genesis 12:1-9 and be encouraged.
