Have you ever found it difficult to trust God in a specific situation? I think that God's people felt the same way we do. This portion of scripture is God’s promise to the nation of Israel who were in Babylonian captivity. They were supposed to stay in the land for 70 years. It must have been a depressing experience to be robbed of their vitality, their sense of value, fellowship, and worship, to name a few. But, even in the midst of complete darkness and chaos, God's promise to them remained. He was sending them a word to console and encourage them to wait on Him, and this promise would stand the test of time.

This passage of Scripture is well-known in Christian circles and is frequently referenced. I had known this scripture, but it struck a chord with me when my neighbor, who ran a Bible club in our neighborhood, emphasized it to me after I finished my national exam in the late 1990s. God wanted me to hear this word because at that moment my heart was greatly distressed.

Young children trust their parents. Teachers are trusted in school because of their understanding and knowledge. How much more should we trust our creator who is all-knowing? Since he created us, nothing is unknown to him. Our God is aware of our physical makeup, our actions, our limitations, our needs, and our thoughts which he perceives from afar. The plans he has for us are good plans! God is always looking out for our best interests.

Of course, he does not promise us a world without troubles. You see, the enemy deceives us into believing that when he sends disaster, it is the Lord's doing. As a result, we may lose faith in God and fail to embrace his works. But in the midst of all that surrounds us, the Lord calls us to a place of complete trust in him and his good plans.

Be reminded that God’s plans give us hope, which is essential lest we faint in heart. It is important for us to understand that the Creator has tremendous plans for his people in the present and future – in the world, but also with him in eternity.

Have you tried and tried again yet still come up short, discouraged and even hopeless? God truly plans the best for his children, for all who have been born again through faith in Jesus Christ. Why not put your faith in his sincere desire for your life and allow him to bring forth the good that he had in store right from the beginning of time?

Heavenly Father, in a world where many things appear to be going in the wrong direction, remind me that your plans remain. They are true, they are good, and they give me hope and a future. Amen.

Throughout this Day: Make time for personal introspection. As you do so, commit to embracing God's plan for your life and your family. Be encouraged that the all-seeing and all-knowing God has your best interests at heart.
