“’LORD, help!’ they cried in their trouble, and He rescued them from their distress.”  Psalm 107:6, NLT

Have you made any resolutions for 2014? For many people, New Year’s resolutions are so seldom kept that some resolve not to make resolutions to avoid disappointment!

There is a resolution, however, that the Lord says will bless you. You will be blessed if you resolve to seek God and His help.

Psalm 107 outlines four circumstances that many of us find ourselves in at one point or another: wandering in the wilderness, hungry and thirsty having lost our way; sitting in darkness or bondage because we have rebelled against God’s word and counsel; distressed over our sins and choices that have led to destruction; or seeking the good life of success and at our wit’s end.

In each circumstance, the people cried out to the LORD in their trouble and He delivered them from their distress. He broke the chains of bondage. He saved them from destruction. He calmed the storm.

Wherever you find yourself today or in the days ahead, I urge you to resolve today to seek the Lord. Cry to Him when you are in any form of trouble. He will hear your cry and come to your aid.

May we all begin 2014 with a humble posture – asking God for help and seeking His face, giving thanks to Him and praising Him in the presence of others.

“Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things He has done for them. For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Let them exalt Him publicly before the congregation and before the leaders of the nation.”  Psalm 107:8-9,32 NLT

Lord, thank You for your steadfast and unfailing love. Thank You that You hear our cry for help and you are able to deliver and help us. We resolve to seek You daily in 2014. Give us thankful hearts of praise, satisfy and fill our hearts. Help us share who You are and the wonderful things You have done for us. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
