We can all relate to trying to find something we have lost or misplaced. While living in Hawaii, our family’s Christmas tradition was to take the Waikiki Christmas trolley tour. We relished the opportunity to join the festivities and sing carols while viewing the incredible light displays throughout Honolulu. One year, I will never forget when I looked down at my hand and panicked because a special ring my mom had blessed me with was missing.

I retraced my steps, trying to determine the last time I had the ring on my finger, and continued to search all the places I had been that day, trying to remember the last time I saw it. I was devastated and frantically looked, searched, and prayed that I would find my precious ring. A year later, while going through some Christmas storage bins, I heard a “clink” and dumped the bin out to find my special ring! I was over the moon and called everyone to tell them the exciting and joyous news.

In today’s verses, Jesus clearly pictured God’s loving concern for the lost as he describes the woman gleefully rejoicing when she finds the coin. Yet, her joy pales in comparison to the light in God’s eye when one sinner repents and finds salvation through the love of Christ. Your salvation is gracefully bought and paid for by Christ, a grace which can be found described throughout the Scriptures and in old hymns like Amazing Grace that says,” I was lost, but now I am found.”

As the woman found her coin, and I found my ring — you too can find salvation if you invite Jesus into your life. You would not believe the rejoicing that occurs in heaven when you turn fullheartedly back to God and open your eyes to the wonder of Jesus Christ!

Father, how great is your love that you sent your son to die for us and forgive us of all our sins. Help us to turn from sin and to seek you wholeheartedly. Thank you for your incredible gift of grace!

Throughout This Day: Thank God often for paying an unimaginable price to rescue you and reconcile you to himself.
