Everything around us is changing. It is sometimes very difficult to keep pace with them. While some changes enhance our life, some lead to uncertainty, questions, confusion, chaos and doubts. How do you respond to the unwelcome changes? Do you lose hope? Do you give up? Do you blame God?
GOOD NEWS – In the midst of a changing world, our unchanging God is our sure foundation. Hebrews 13:8 and Malachi 3:6 state clearly that God does not change. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. His word also assures us that nothing is too difficult for him (Jeremiah 32:27).
What are the unchanging, constant attributes of our God that help us to stand firmly during the stormy times?
I have experienced the reality of God’s love, grace, trustworthiness, compassion, power and faithfulness during my mental health journey. My life was drastically changed when I received the bipolar disorder diagnosis. Everything was turned upside down. I had many questions and doubts but thankfully, when my heart caught the truth of God’s unchanging nature, I arose from the pit of despair and hopelessness. The circumstances did not turn around instantly, but my choice to hold on to the truth was significant to my recovery. I am comforted knowing that he is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. He is not only my ever present help, but he knows the details of my circumstances and he has the power to change them.
The Bible contains many accounts of God’s loving and compassionate heart and his power to transform any circumstance. He was never indifferent to the cries of his people. He rescued the Israelites from the oppression of the Egyptians. He defeated giants. He showed up in the fiery furnace and delivered the three Hebrew boys. He granted favour to those who were betrayed. Compassion caused him to heal the sick, feed the hungry, raise the dead and set the captives free.
Are you concerned that God has not come to your rescue? Whatever the pain you are experiencing now, God has not changed. The God of the Bible is the same God of the twenty-first century and forever. That which he did as recorded in the Bible, he will do again. In our changing world, we can depend on our unchanging God.
The changing world will fail us but our UNCHANGING GOD will never ever fail us.
Heavenly Father, please help me to believe that you do not change. Sometimes I think that you do not care and you will not come to my rescue. Help my unbelief. I want to truly know that you reign and everything is subject to your almighty power. In the name of Jesus I pray Amen.
Throughout this day: Meditate on the truth of Hebrews 13:8. Be reminded of his unchanging nature daily. Choose to believe his word. Saturate your heart with the truth that GOD IS UNCHANGING.
