I was in the middle of texting my friend before church started, and just as the music started to play, I told her I had to go. She then sent me a little smiley face and said, “Okay, girl!” with a gif attached of someone all teary-eyed with happiness and said: “It makes me so happy to know you are going to go and strengthen your most important relationship.”

It’s been a week since she’s sent that and the wording has yet to leave my head. I hadn’t thought of my relationship with God in that light before but it’s true! There is no relationship of greater importance.

But . . . why is it the most important relationship for us to spend time deepening?

The reason a close relationship with God is so important is because it literally affects every aspect of our life without ever being physical, and without it, all other relationships are meaningless. We can try to find ourselves in other people, find contentment in our marriages, our dating lives, or our work, but each one is only ever going to let us down, leave us craving more, and feeling unsatisfied because God made us for more.

He created us to desire more.

I can’t deny that we are all busy. However, despite our activities, we need to carve out time to develop our relationship with a God who always makes time to listen, love, laugh, and be with us no matter how busy he is.

Father God, Thank you for inviting me into an eternal relationship with you. Show me how to enjoy you more and more with each passing day. Amen.

Throughout This Day: Remind yourself often that God is always with you and that you can talk with him and listen to him at all moments.
