We can scroll the latest on Instagram or Facebook apart from Jesus. Social media is usually a huge waste of time and I always regret wasting the time and losing the sleep. But still it pulls us in. Other times, my frustration mounts when the online registration form doesn’t go through for the fifth time. Or when my child distracts me while I’m making a new recipe from my phone, and I spill the ingredient right onto the phone. Or when the timer beeps, telling me about the online meeting in five minutes and I have forgotten to make dinner ahead of time. I may or may not have screamed when I realized my mistake.

Technology is both a blessing and a curse. Life would be a lot simpler without the internet but also a lot more complicated. But whether we are constantly connected to the internet, or could go back to an era when the telephone hadn’t even been invented, the point is the same: John 15:5 says that apart from Jesus we can do nothing. So true! Nothing of lasting eternal value.

It is impossible for us to have a fulfilling effective life without his Holy Spirit filling and empowering us. I challenge you to track what you do for a day and see if you were relying on Jesus in you or on yourself.

Lord Jesus, what would I do without you? Help me not to try to live life without you. I choose you. You chose me. Thank you for never giving up on me. Forgive me again. Fill me again. I want to respond with your grace not anger when I am bumped or when things don’t go my way. Help me to stay in you. Thank you that you will always stay in me. Help my life to show more and more of the fruit of your Spirit.

Throughout this Day: Listen to this scripture song based on John 15:4-5 and try to memorize it.
