Fear sought to take over my life. I asked God to speak in the midst of my storm. He brought me to this verse. I read it repeatedly and began to ponder all of the messages within it. The Lord’s reassurance touched me deep inside.

Speaking to each of us in the first person, this verse is a personal and intimate message from the Lord’s heart to ours. “Do not be afraid because I AM — the God of the universe and the Creator who sustains all — I am with you. I’ll fight for you on your side. I’ll accompany you and I am never leaving.

Don’t be dismayed. Don’t lose your courage, because I am your God. I promise you that I will personally strengthen you and help you. Don’t be afraid; I promise to strengthen and help you — you will make it through because of me.

I will uphold you — you will get through this. I will never let go. I won’t drop or fail you. I would never lie to you.”

Fear arises when we realize we don’t have what it takes to overcome. We aren’t powerful, wise, or strong enough to handle what is coming at us. The Message version of this verse uses the term a “firm grip on you.”

May the Lord reassure us when life’s storms hit. We have no need to fear when the Lord is with us, for us, calming us, and strengthening and helping us. God holds us and promises that he will never let go.

Father God, thank you for all of your personal promises to us within this one verse. Write this verse on our hearts and remind us of it when fear seeks to take over our lives. We have no need to fear because you are with us. We are grateful beyond words. Amen.
