My beautiful mother had suffered a debilitating stroke that left her in a wheelchair, unable to walk or speak. I couldn’t even imagine what she was going through, locked in her own body, not able to communicate what she was feeling or thinking.

As my heart cried out to the Lord, the above passage came to mind. Hagar too felt like she had been forgotten, abandoned and all alone in the desert. But God was there with her, and he saw her. Not only that, he spoke to her and blessed her!

In the same way, God was with my mother and he saw her, alone in that hospital room because of COVID restrictions prohibiting visitors. God knew everything about her situation, as challenging as it was. And even though we as a family could not physically be with her, she was still seen by the one who sees her. I could trust that he was speaking to her too.

I have had to remind myself of this truth many times since that first week. As helpless as I was to meet my mother’s needs, I knew that God was there with her and I could trust that he sees her and is intimately acquainted with her struggle to communicate on a daily basis. She is not alone, nor is she invisible.

Do you sometimes feel like you are all alone in your struggle, invisible to those around you? Be assured that you too have a God who sees you! Not only that, but he longs to speak to you and reassure you that he hasn’t forgotten you.

Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you that you are the God who sees my mother in her wheelchair and you see me, right here, right now. You know everything about me and I am not alone. Remind me often of this truth when I feel like no one sees me or cares about what I am going through right now. Amen.

Throughout this Day: Have you felt all alone, forgotten and invisible to the rest of the world? Today, be reminded that not only does God see you, but he knows everything about you and your situation. He is right there with you as you walk this journey.
