Can I let you in on something? It is the faith that you have in God that will sustain you during periods of great adversity. I am drawn to this verse, especially because it has been a season where my faith has been tested greatly. In the stillness of my heart, this word echoed so loudly. Guess I needed to remind myself that faith and fear cannot coexist.

The backdrop of this verse is well known to many — a widow in great need facing an enemy who is denying her an opportunity to possess what was rightfully hers and an unjust judge who couldn’t care less.

Life circumstances can make one doubt the meaning of life and the reason for existence.  You see, the odds were against her, but she kept pressing on, and her persistence paid off. We are reminded herein that Jesus is a good judge — we can count on him. Will God not bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night (v. 7)?  Have the challenges in life become insurmountable? Have you come to your wit’s end? Giving up is not an option — hold on to Jesus just a little longer.

Jesus is asking the above questions, and may our answer be a resounding yes! Beloved, let us have faith in Jesus, pressing on in prayer, persistently seeking him and his will, and depending fully on the Holy Spirit. Jesus will not forsake us. He will carry us through the murky and turbulent waters.

Heavenly Father, when our hearts are overwhelmed, lead us to the place of peace and security that is found only in you. Amen.

Throughout This Day: Pour out your heart to Jesus. As you bring all your cares and burdens to him, he will minister his peace to you through his Holy Spirit.
