I felt darkness all over me that morning. It was an eerie feeling. I was the only one in the house.
I went downstairs, made coffee and brought a cup to my home office. I switched on the light. I tried to make myself comfortable and study the Word. I desperately wanted to listen to what He had to say.
I could not focus. I tried hard to feel closer to God. Too many things were on my mind. I was distracted. That’s not like me. Something was unusual that day.
That eerie feeling around me stayed for the day. However, I persisted in reaching out to the light. I know that light wasn’t far; it was within me.
Later, I went for a walk down the beach. The sun was shining. It was just a beautiful spring morning. As I walked along the beach and breathed the air from the aqua blue sea, it freshened me up and I felt better physically.
Then, I went back home. I still felt that there was darkness around me. I felt that something was fighting against my peace. My mind was still racing.
In my spirit, I heard, “He knows.” Those two little words touched my heart. I wondered where I’d heard those words before - Jeremy Camp’s song! So, I searched online to see if I could find the song. I did. I listened to it. Again and again, and again. The presence of God filled the atmosphere. There was no room for any darkness around me anymore. That song helped me to praise God and tell him how grateful I was for Him.
Light was all over me. The peace that surpasses all understanding overflowed.
King David experienced the darkness as he faced the battles of life too. So, he relied on the Lord as his source of light. He praised God for being his lamp, “You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light.” Similarly, that lamp provided light that pushed back the darkness around me.
Lord God, thank you for being my lamp! And thank you for your power that pushes back the darkness and for access to the light. Amen.
