Have you ever held onto something, believing that it was truly the best thing for you? Perhaps it was your job, a significant other, a friend, or even a dream. Did you ever stop to think that perhaps that wasn’t God’s best for you? That perhaps there was something even better out there and you didn’t realize it?

This is exactly the dilemma Amaziah faced in 2 Chronicles 25 as he realized he was short of warriors. Instead of consulting God, Amaziah hired extra soldiers, believing that more fighters would bring the ultimate victory. It wasn’t until the word of the Lord came to Amaziah that Amaziah realized God was with him. If God was with him, why did he need those extra men in battle? The prophet’s response was, “The LORD is able to give you much more than this.” Amaziah heeded those words, believing that God would make up for the loss. And God did.

Amaziah didn’t need those extra warriors to win. He only needed God’s help. It’s the same way with us.

Sometimes we hold onto things that need to be let go of so we can trust that God will provide more abundantly than before. Is there something in your life that you know isn’t right but it’s the best thing you’ve gotten so far so you refuse to let it go? Let Amaziah be a reminder that the best is what God provides. Let go.

Dear Lord, please forgive me for assuming I know what’s best for me. I know that your ways are much higher than mine. Allow me to accept and enjoy your will for me in this situation. Amen.

Go Deeper — Think about the things you love the most. Are these things hindering you from moving forward? Are they healthy for you? Or has God told you to let go but you won’t? Pray for God’s victory to overcome your fear and to give you assurance that His plan is best.
