I’m a hardcore foodie. The colors, textures, and flavors of delectable dishes are exciting to my eyes and palate. Then as the food hits my mouth, it’s hard not to thank God for what I’m experiencing. Whether savory or sweet, spicy or sour, my senses come alive and I am grateful that I can see, smell, and taste it all. God is good. If you’re like me, however, when I eat a favorite meal it doesn’t take long for it to disappear, and then the enjoyment is lost.

What fills us up doesn’t end with food. If we open our eyes, there is an abundance of things God has made that we can savor in a deeper way.

I can equally be satiated in the middle of God’s greatest pantry — nature. “Gulping down” a field of green spotted with small purple flowers fills my soul with a sight and smell I can’t get enough of. If it were food, overindulgence would definitely be a regular occurrence. So, I am grateful that nature’s “meals” are calorie-free.

Hearing the birds and other creatures of spring bring life to a once lifeless canvas, feeds my spirit, and stuffs my ears with ingredients that slow me down and bring me to rest in the sunshine. Mmm… so good.

God is so good to provide for His children, to nourish us not only in our stomachs but even more so in our hearts, minds, and souls. Taking refuge in an intimate relationship with the Lord tastes and looks good!

Heavenly Father, you truly know how to satisfy me in every way. Just when I think the food you provide can’t taste any better, you open the door to your creation and I am beyond full. Thank you for caring about my every need as I take refuge in my relationship with you. There is no one else like you and I love you. You are so good! It is in Jesus’ precious name I pray, amen.”

Go Deeper — The next time you sit down for a meal or go for a long walk, slow down and acknowledge the goodness of the Lord, both as your daily provider of food and Creator of nature. Doing so can bring great satisfaction to your entire being.
