No one can say “Jesus is Lord” except those who have the Holy Spirit dwelling within them. The evidence of fruit in the life of one who has accepted Jesus as their Lord is revealed through their godly character. Our motives behind our thoughts and actions are driven by our character.

Character is formed as our trying circumstances press down upon us. “Nothing is in vain. I will redeem it all.” The Lord spoke those comforting words to me years ago. I was really struggling. My health was rapidly declining. Doctors had no answer for me, except that it was all in my head. I had one diagnosis of hysterical paralysis.

In actuality I had fallen head first into a six foot ravine. The brain injury was so severe that I didn’t remember it until three and a half years later. It was during those bedridden years that the Lord wooed me into an intimate communion with him that radically changed my life.

I had accepted him as my Savior when I was young. It was through my inability to function normally that he began to teach me how to rely on him as Lord over all my life. He divinely orchestrates everything we go through for our best.

My ‘best’ was the fall into the ravine. It stopped me in my tracks. He used it to correct my course. My brain injuries are great assets. They brought me from a mediocre Christian, to one who passionately pursues Jesus.

Father, I ask you to encourage and strengthen each one of your children today. Help them to realize that you are working in all their trials to fulfill your best for their lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Throughout This Day: Thank God often that he can use even the most difficult and mysterious events in our lives to draw us closer to him.
