“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Do you ever question God’s perfect timing in your life? Admittedly, amidst adverse circumstance, I sometimes question God’s timing and motive. Like many believers, I defer to my own understanding and fail to realize God’s perfect timing in specific life circumstances.

However, like discovering the location of hidden treasure, thoughtful retrospect changes my perspective. Through the perfect convergence of prayer, promise, and providence, I realize that God’s timing has never been coincidental or random – it is impeccable.

Scripture offers many assurances of God’s perfect timing: Sarah’s pregnancy; Lot’s deliverance; Daniel’s exoneration; Jesus’ Passover sacrifice; Paul’s commissioning; John’s revelation. Consequently, we can reflect on their response and resolve, and learn to apply similar insight and divine dependency in our current and future life circumstances.

Similarly, if we can confidently reflect with hindsight to see His perfect timing, then with every assurance, we can know that He is with us in every circumstance, and that He directs our current and future steps.

The next time you doubt God’s perfect timing in your life, consider these essential steps to keep perspective:

1) Thank Him for His faithfulness.
2) Take Him at His Word.
3) Trust Him for His direction.

Often, at first glance, we do not see the tapestry of perfect providence interweaving into our lives. However, once we see life through the lens of retrospect, we realize that God intricately and intimately weaves Himself into the very fabric of our lives and works all things for good for those called according to His purpose.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that despites my circumstances, your timing is always perfect. Instill in my heart a posture of humility and thankfulness. Help me to submit willingly and obediently to Your Word. May Your Spirit help me to trust You completely in every life circumstance.
